A fabulous antique Palais Royale

musical neccesaire,

 

Circa 1830,

 

Sewing for the Royal Court...

 

With cylinder movement playing two airs once tune selected and actuation set running by buttons to front.

With the fitted interior housing the complete set of bobbin wheels, loop hook, thimble, pin/needle case and scissors, pin board inside the lid, dressed in Royal blue and white silk, in classic Palais Royale case of gilt metal with pierced panel edges, the lid with central oval mother-of-pearl panel, all sides with twinned mother-of-pearl facings, circular lid catch and start/stop, change/repeat buttons to front, on shaped bracket feet on baulle toes.

 

5.1/2in. wide, 3.3/4in. deep, 2.1/4in. high, 2.1/2in cylinder length - (14 x 9.5 x 5.7 x 6.4cm)

 

Point of interest -

A complete original set which after much careful restoration is as crisp in detail and colour as when it was made.  Palais Royale pieces are always easy to spot, but the larger the mother-of-pearl panel examples are the most sought after, due to the expensive materials.  Here, one panel sides and twin panel lid make this a very desirable piece for the Palais Royale collector.  It even has a use too.
